My Six Years after Graduating from GMBA
My job search took quite some time, but I eventually secured my first role after completing my MBA in Taiwan at KGI Securities (Thailand), part of the KGI group in Taiwan. My former boss considered my educational background in Taiwan a positive factor in the hiring decision, so studying there helped me secure the opportunity.
One challenge was that investment banking roles in Thailand often required practical knowledge of valuation and financial modeling. At the time, my MBA program did not offer courses on building a three-statement financial model or applying the discounted cash flow (DCF) valuation method. This gap made it more difficult for me to secure a role in investment banking.
I addressed this gap by independently learning financial modeling and discounted cash flow (DCF) valuation through courses and tutorials on YouTube.
I enjoy the continuous learning opportunities in my work. The role allows me to deepen my understanding of finance and strengthen my accounting knowledge. The steep learning curve challenges me and helps me grow professionally.
From my experience, finding a job in Taiwan can be difficult because many companies require strong Mandarin Chinese skills. If you want to work there, I recommend improving your Chinese while studying. But you may also find more job opportunities in your home country, where your education and experience in Taiwan can help your career.
